Download Page – Finalized Download

After reviewing and selecting what to download in the cart page, you proceed to the download page. This page allows the user to select the desired compression format, file organization, provide their email address, and submit the request.

The first section of the page explains the order fulfillment process after the request is submitted. The PDS Geosciences Node will acquire and organize the requested files (as directed) into a directory on an FTP site. A link to the directory containing the request, along with login information will be emailed to the provided address.

Select Packaging Format

The next section of the page allows the user to select the desired file packaging format.

Zip is a standard Windows compression and packaging format. Windows provides built in tools for opening and uncompressing these files. It will also work on Linux and Mac.

Tar is a standard non-Windows format for packaging files. It is compatible with Windows, too.

Tar.Gz is a common non-Windows format for compressing files. It is compatible with Windows, but it may require additional software.

No Compression will place the files in a directory or series of directories for download without packaging them. Each file is downloaded individually with FTP. This selection will provide more rapid access to the files because our software does not need to package the files into a compressed or set of compressed files. Additionally, the size reduction of zip and tar.gz varies based on the product type. Typically, large binary images do not compress significantly with zip or tar.gz.

Select File Organization

There are two options for the file organization. The files can be organized by PDS volume and maintain the original PDS archive directory structure. The other option is group all the files in one data directory. Browse, derived, and archive files would be grouped into subdirectories with this option.

Providing Email

The user email address is required for notification once the files are ready for download from the FTP site.

When ready, select the “Submit Request” button.

Download Request Confirmation

This page provides confirmation that your download request has been submitted successfully. A request number is provided for your future reference if a problem occurs with the transfer.
