The Mini-RF (MRFLRO) Derived Global Mosaic Data Record (MOSDDR) data product is a global uncontrolled mosaic of the Moon in simple cylindrical projection. The images are derived from Map-projected Calibrated Data Records (MAPCDR). Unlike the lower-level products, these are composed of data sets collected during multiple acquisitions.

The MOSDDR products are generated using the Integrated Software for Imagers and Spectrometers (ISIS) software provided by the Astrogeology branch of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The MAPCDR files are ingested in order of orbit and the 4-band Real (Re), Imaginary (Im), Horizontal (H), and Vertical (V) image cube products are formatted to ISIS compatible form. Different viewing geometries are not differentiated in the construction of these products. These are then projected to a 128 pixels per degree (ppd) simple cylindrical projection. The Stokes parameters are then calculated. Partial mosaics are constructed for directories, each consisting of 100 orbits of data. Image product crossovers are also mosaicked chronologically by orbit. Global mosaics are then constructed of the four Stokes parameters and are mosaicked in order by orbit. Smaller 32 ppd image products are constructed by down-sampling the 128 ppd image products. From these products the additional data products are calculated.

Degree of linear polarization

ML = [(S22+S32)0.5]/(M*S1)

Note: Since December 26 2010, the Mini-RF instrument has not transmitted the RF energy required to create radar images of the lunar surface. The Mini-RF team looked at the initial 13 collects attempted from that date forward and noted that in all but one collect the data appeared bad, looking like noise. The team continued to attempt data collections at a reduced rate (about 1 collect per day) through January 23, 2011. Products included in this data set made from data collected after December 26, 2010, do not contain scientifically useful data.
