This bundle is a PDS4 migration of the original PDS3 Magellan RDRS FBIDR (Full-Resolution Basic Image Data Record) dataset. FBIDRs consist of full-resolution Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) image data acquired by the Magellan spacecraft along a single orbit of Venus, sampled to a surface pixel size of 75 m in both the cross-track and along-track directions. The PDS4 version contains the same underlying image and per-orbit metadata as the PDS3 archive, but reformatted into straightforward PDS4 array and table structures rather than the fixed/variable-length "logical record" files used in PDS3.

Of the 5,948 FBIDRs in the original PDS3 archive, this bundle currently contains PDS4 versions of 4,157 of them, and 1,791 PDS3 FBIDRs were not migrated to this PDS4 bundle:

Please see more information in FBIDR restoration release notes. Status for every PDS3 FBIDR, including the reason for exclusion where applicable, is listed in the orbit_inclusion_table product in the miscellaneous collection.

In the original PDS3 FBIDR archive, each FBIDR corresponds to data gathered during one orbit of Venus and consists of twenty files numbered file_01 to file_20. Files 1 and 20 contain basic metadata about the original magnetic tape version of the FBIDR. Files 2-11 were copied from the original SAR Experiment Data Records (EDRs) . Files 12-19 were produced specifically for the FBIDR products.The formats of the 20 files that make up a PDS3 FBIDR are described in the FBIDR Product SIS. This PDS4 version of the FBIDR dataset contains translations of the contents of file_12 (Per-orbit parameters), file_13 (Image Data in Oblique Sinusoidal Projection), and file_15 (Image Data in Sinusoidal Projection). An upcoming revision of this bundle will include data derived from files 14 and 16 through 19. In this bundle. each PDS3 FBIDR corresponds to up to two PDS4 products, depending on which regions of the orbit's image data are present.

RDRS FBIDR products have the following file names:

fbidr_oooo_v#_reg{_***}

where:

oooo = 4-digit decimal number denoting the zero-padded Magellan Project-assigned orbit number

# = 1-digit decimal number denoting the Project-assigned version of the FBIDR product for the orbit

reg = region code, either eq or polar

{_***}= Other files with *** as data or linemeta

data = Array of image data. Each line has 512 unsigned-byte pixel values, in the same line order as the source PDS3 image file.

linemeta = Per-line metadata table, one row per image line, with columns: burst_counter, line_idx, p1 (offset to first valid pixel), p2

(pointer to last valid pixel), firstpix_offset_lines (northing, in 75 m pixels), firstpix_offset_pixels (easting, in 75 m pixels)

Note: Per-orbit metadata (from the PDS3 file_12) is carried in each product's XML label, and is also collected across all products in the orbit_summary_table product in the miscellaneous collection (urn:nasa:pds:magellan_fbidr:miscellaneous:orbit_summary_table)

In ODE, FBIDR products have the following Product IDs:

FBIDR.OOOO_v#_REG
