For more information about MDIS Nathair Facula Topography and Photometric data products, see the productdescription.txt.

This bundle contains regional topography and photometric data for two locations within Nathair Facula, Mercury. Both locations focus on volcanic vents and pyroclastic deposits near 35.86 latitude and 63.93 east longitude. The data was generated using the Gaskell Stereophotoclinometry (SPC) software suite, utilizing images from the MESSENGER mission to Mercury.

In addition to the topographic heights of the Digital Terrain Model (DTM), photometric data is aligned to and has the same horizontal spacing as the topographic data. For select Mercury Dual Imaging System (MDIS) Narrow Angle Camera (NAC) or Wide Angle Camera (WAC) images, four photometric data products are available; I/F (reflectance), Local Phase Angle, Local Emission Angle, and Local Incidence Angle. One DTM represents heights every 120 m and has a size of 130 by 130 km, while the other represents heights every 60 m and has a size of 80 by 80 km. The two DTMs partially overlap.

The topography data is provided in two formats: cubes readable by the USGS ISIS program, and geoTiff files that can be read by programs such as ArcGIS. The photometric data, in cube format, is aligned with the topographic cube data and shares the same horizontal spacing. To facilitate data usage, filenames end with a “c” to indicate ISIS cubes or a “g” to indicate geoTiffs.

MDIS Topographic and Photometric products have the following file names:

<location>_<image number identifier>_<type>_<format>.xxx (with detached PDS labels for each product)

where:

location = This identifier has both the region and the central lat/lon DTM information.

aaa = the first three characters represent an abbreviated version of region. E.g., "naf" represents the area within the Nathair Facula region

bbb = the next three characters represent the latitude. The latitude is denoted by "n" for North and "s" for South, followed by the numeric value of the latitude accurate to a whole number.

ccc = the next three characters represent the longitude. The longitude is represented by the numeric value in East Longitude accurate to a whole number.

image number identifier = specific to photometric data and comprises the last five digits of the MDIS image name, and the filter name

type = indicates the product type

topo = topography

lat = latitude

lon = longitude

ioverf = I/F (reflectance)

a = phase angle

e = emission angle

i = incidence angle

format = Specifies the product format

c = USGS ISIS cube format

g = geoTiff format

xxx = file extension

CUB = USGS ISIS cube format file

TIF = geoTiff file

XML = PDS4 product label file

In ODE, Topographic and Photometric products have the following product IDs:

<location>_<topo>_g.tif: all topography geoTiffs (with links to the topography, latitude, and longitude cubes)

<location>_<image number identifier>_<ioverf>_c.cub: I/F cubes (grouped as a ODE logic product and provided links to other photometric cubes)
