The Lunar Prospector Electron Reflectometer (LP-ER) Level 1B Omni-directional Low-resolution Flux Data (ER_LO) data products are a time ordered series of low resolution electron measurements. Each record consists of a time tag with 15 scalar data points representing measurements of the electron flux in 15 different energy channels, usually ranging from 40 eV to 20 keV, with an energy resolution of 25%. Each data point is a measure of the electron flux (cm-2s-1ster-1eV-1) averaged over 4pi steradians. These data are averaged over 16 spins (~80 seconds) and are measured continuously.
These data are intended to be used in conjunction with LP Magnetometer (LP-MAG) data records, which provide the magnetic field vector as a function of time. Electrons travel along the magnetic field lines in tight helices (few km radius) at high speed (roughly one Mars diameter per second). Thus the electron data contain information about the plasma environment as well as the large-scale configuration of the magnetic field, which is sampled locally by the LP-MAG.
ER_LO products have the following file names:
ELyymmdd.TAB (with detached PDS label)
where:
yy = year of data collection
mm = month of data collection
dd = day of data collection
Additionally, there are 2 ancillary files found in ODE. E_bins.tab, with its corresponding label file, contains the energy values for the centers of the bins for which fluxes are measured in these data products, together with the times at which the bins were changed to have those values. Outages.tab, with its corresponding label file, lists times and information about data gaps our outages in LP merged telemetry files for the entire LP mission.
In ODE, ER_LO products have the following product IDs:
ELYYMMDD
E_BINS.TAB
