The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC) Binned Data Record Wide Angle Camera Monthly Global Coverage Mosaic (BDRWMV) data product contains a map-projected single-band basemap derived from Wide Angle Camera (WAC) single-band imaging. The product identifies regions of permanent shadow and permanent or near-permanent illumination over a full lunar year and consists of WAC single-band multi-temporal uncontrolled synoptic mosaics of polar regions at 100.0 m/pixel scale.

The basemap products, made from the WAC’s 643 nm imaging, are used in the generation of uncontrolled illumination movies at both poles with an average time interval between each frame of approximately five hours. The movie sequence is intended to identify regions of permanent shadow and permanent or near-permanent illumination over a full lunar year. The BDRWMV is mapped into the Polar Stereographic projection and scaled at 100 m/pixel with latitude coverage of 80° to 90°. The image dimension is about 6,060 x 6,060 pixels. Approximately 8,700 mosaics are created for each pole over a full lunar year. The WAC Field of View (FOV) covers a swath ~100 km width resulting in repeat coverage every orbit for the region between 88° and 90° at each pole. The individual frames for each pole are compiled into a movie sequence formatted in MPEG-2 and QuickTime video formats. PDS3 standards do not exist for video formats so these products are available in the EXTRAS directory (North Pole and South Pole) of the archive volume of the LROC Derived Data Products.

LROC BDRWMV products have the following file names:

WAC_MOVIE_dyyyymmddThhmm.IMG

where:

d = pole

N = north pole

S = south pole

yyyy = year

mm = month

dd = day

hh = hour

mm = minute

In ODE, BDRWMV products have the following product IDs:
