The LIDAR High-resolution camera (HiRes) Experiment Data Record (EDR) data products are raw images. Data have been depacketized and reformatted, but are otherwise “raw”. Raw data contain the geometric and radiometric characteristics of unprocessed and unrectified data. To make full utilization of the data, it is necessary to perform radiometric and geometric processing on the data products.

HiRes is used for science observations. It has a filter wheel that allow images to be acquired under six spectral filters at wavelengths of 415 nm, 560 nm, 650 nm, 750 nm, 650 nm (broadband), and opaque. Each HiRes EDR image is 288 lines by 384 samples.

HiRes EDR lunar mapping phase products have the following file names:

LHfxxxxy.nnn

where:

f = filter wheel position = A, B, C, D, E, F, or “_”

xxxx = frame number within revolution

y = latitude bin for lunar mapping observations; signifies a latitude range on the lunar surface where the observation was made (see table below)

rrr = 3-digit orbit number

HiRes EDR non-lunar mapping phase products have the following file names:

mHfxxxxy.nnn

where:

m = Mission Phase

A = Earth phasing loop A

B = Earth phasing loop B

f = filter wheel position = A, B, C, D, E, F, or “_”

xxxx = frame sequence number within a download dump of the spacecraft’s solid state recorder; the solid state recorder, holding acquired images, is periodically downloaded to Earth; images are number sequentially by time of observation

y = alpha character; each 100 sequential images of a camera are assigned an alpha character A-Z

rrr = memory download sequence number; incremented by one each time a download is made of the solid state data recorder within a mission phase
