The Radio Science Subsystem (RSS) Tracking and Navigation File (TRK-2-34 data) Record (TNF4) is the primary output from the MESSENGER closed-loop system. In the TNF4 about 20 record types are defined, each designed for a particular audience, although it is frequently the case that users need more than one record type. The emphasis of the data is on phase of the transmitted and received signals, with 10 phase counts recorded each second. Each TNF4 is accompanied by a PDS minimal label that points to a software specification document (dsn_trk_2_34_tnf_sis_p.pdf) for detailed descriptions of the records and fields.

RSS TNF4 products have the following file names:

yydddhhmmSC236DSSnn_TNF.DAT

where:

yydddhhmm = the start time, day of year, hour and minutes

SC236 = The DSN spacecraft identifier for MESSENGER

DSSnn = the DSN number of the primary receiving antenna (in rare cases, the value "dssall" may appear).
