For more information about RDRS MIDR products, see the Magellan MIDR User's Guide for the PDS4 Dataset, and the FMIDR Data Set Description for the PDS3 FMIDR products.
The Radar System (RDRS) Full-Resolution Mosaicked Image Data Records (FMIDRs) contain synthetic aperture radar (SAR) mosaics generated from Full-Resolution Basic Image Data Records (FBIDRs) (i.e. with 75 meters/pixel). Each FMIDR is in a sinusoidal equal area projection and has an origin at 0 degrees latitude, with the central meridian defined as the longitude bisecting the mosaic. Each FMIDR has 7168 lines (aligned with latitude) by 8192 samples, arranged as 1024 x 1024 files. FMIDRs have been generated for key terrains on the planet, regions where highest spatial resolution is required for analysis. The new PDS4 migrated FMIDR archive contains the same data as the original PDS3 archive, but with the multiple small framelets of each product put together into a single mosaic. The updated archive also has contrast-enhanced and easier to display browse products stored as JPEG files, along with improved metadata in the MIDR PDS4 labels. For a more comprehensive understanding of this dataset and its improvements, please see the Magellan MIDR User's Guide for the PDS4 Dataset.
In ODE, FMIDR products, which include the files in the table below, have one of the following product IDs:
fmidr_xxpwww_v (first mapping cycle, v = 1-digit version number)
fmidr_xxpwww_nvv (following cycles, n = cycle number, vv = 2-digit version number)
where:
xx = 2-digit number denoting the center latitude of the image
p = either N or S depending on the image's position relative to the equator
www = 3-digit number denoting the center longitude of the image
For each migrated PDS4 FMIDR data product in ODE's data product search result page, it is linked to the following files appear with their corresponding PDS3 label files, including the ancillary data and framelets that make up a single 7168 line by 8192 sample mosaic.
|
File Name |
File Content |
|
browse.img |
The browse version of the FMIDR, 896 lines by 1024 samples, created by averaging groups of 8 x 8 pixels in the original FMIDR. |
|
frame.tab |
A table describing the range of latitude and longitude within each framelet. |
|
geom.tab |
Selected entries from the Magellan Experimenter’s Notebook. The Notebook is generated from the Magellan Radar Mapping Sequencing Software and is based on predicted information. Information is included in GEOM.TAB on orbit numbers for which data were acquired and used in a given file, together with information on radar viewing geometry and image quality. |
|
hist.tab |
A binary histogram of pixel values in each 8192 x 7168 FMIDR. |
|
ffnn.img |
A 1024 x 1024 image framelet, where ‘nn’ is the framelet number (01-56). |
In PDS3 archives, all of the MIDR products (F, C1, C2, and C3) appear in the same PDS directory. FMIDR products occur in 77 of the subdirectories found at the data set link above for a total of 765 products. The subdirectories containing FMIDR products are in the table below (from left to right):
