The Venus Express Visible and Infrared Thermal Imaging Spectrometer (VIRTIS) PDS-formatted calibrated data (RDR) are in DN. There is a one-to-one correspondence with the observation raw data files when data quality permits. Calibrated dark current files are also available separately for VIRTIS-H.
The calibrated data of both sensors Visible and Infrared are stored in a format similar to the raw data, but with some important differences due to the different nature of the information (physical units in floating format) and to the different information applied and stored during the calibration process. The calibrated data files include a qube containing the channel calibrated data, while reference information is contained either in a separate table (for H) or in a bottomplane (for M) (see sections 4.3.6 and 4.3.7 of the Venus Express-VIRTIS To Planetary Science Archive Interface Control Document). The calibrated data qube core is written as single precision floating point, IEEE encoding, BIP interleave mode. Special values are used to flag some cases resulting from the calibration scheme, which are listed in Table 4.4 of the Venus Express-VIRTIS To Planetary Science Archive Interface Control Document. Negative radiance values larger than -999 are allowed to accommodate measurement uncertainty on sky observations.
VIRTIS RDR products have the following file names:
VFXXXX_NN.EEE
where:
V is a literal “V” character
F is the FPA/transfer mode identifier (one alpha character):
H: H image transfer mode (backup observation mode)
S: H spectrum transfer mode (including dark files in nominal mode)
T: H "64-spectra" transfer mode (nominal mode)
I: M-IR
V: M-Vis
XXXX is the orbit number coded on exactly 4 digits to encompass the duration of the extended mission.
NN is the subsession ID (ID of file produced by this FPA for this orbit).
EEE: Extension is “CAL” for calibrated data files, or “DRK” for calibrated dark currents for H.
In ODE, VIRTIS RDR products have the following product IDs:
VFXXXX_NN.EEE
